Central Heating Power Flushing

Restore circulation, cure boiler noise and bring an ageing central heating system back to full efficiency — often in a single visit.

THE PROCESS

What is Central Heating Power Flushing?

Powerflushing is the process by which the central heating system of a house is flushed clean of rust, sludge and any other debris that may have accumulated.

A high flow pressure pumping unit is attached to the heating system circulation pump, and a series of strong cleansing chemicals are flushed through the entire system.

Using this powerful pump with environmentally safe chemicals, the whole central heating circuit — pipes, radiators and boiler — is cleansed of sludge, scale and corrosion deposits with minimal dismantling and disruption. Every radiator is individually flushed, avoiding the need to remove or disconnect them, by directing the full force of the flow through each one in turn.

At the end of the flushing process, fresh clean water is left in the system — checked with a device to confirm it's as clean as your tap water. The system is then reinstated with the appropriate inhibitor for your boiler and central heating type.

Do My Radiators & Central Heating Need a Power Flush?

Watch out for these symptoms — signs your central heating system and boiler would benefit from a power flush:

  • No hot water from blocked pipes and heat exchangers
  • A noisy boiler that knocks and bangs, especially on start-up
  • Radiators that are partially or completely cold
  • Dirty radiator water
  • Central heating that's slow to warm up
  • Radiators that need frequent bleeding of air
  • Repeated pump failures
  • A central heating header tank that feels warm

These symptoms point to circulation and flow problems caused by internal corrosion, scale and sludge. Power flushing clears these deposits and restores your system's circulation and efficiency, helping prevent future problems.

The Benefits of Power Flushing

  • System flow and circulation restored by removing sludge and scale
  • Central heating efficiency restored, improving heating costs
  • Radiator heat output restored
  • The whole system cleaned, including underfloor pipework
  • Aggressive water removed, with further treatment to prevent corrosion
  • Cures boiler noise
  • Sludge removal and de-scaling completed in one visit
  • Power flushing completed within the day, depending on system size

By breathing new life into an old central heating system, the cost and inconvenience of a full replacement can often be avoided.

Fitting a new boiler? It's strongly recommended to power flush your system first if connecting a new boiler to an old heating system. Most new boilers are condensing boilers, and any contaminants already present in the system can quickly damage the internal pipework of the new boiler — manufacturers will not accept a warranty claim as a result.
